Prof. Dr. Sabine Foraita
Art and/or Design – When Objects Oscillate Between Boundaries

27.11, 7pm

With his Ready-mades, Marcel Duchamp has broadened the view of art by integrating everyday objects into art and even went a step further by exhibiting the objects themselves as works of art. Only the title enabled the viewer to orientate himself*herself and use this assistance to decipher the idea behind it. In 1917 this caused a scandal. Since then, it has been an accepted way of incorporating everyday objects into art. Koenraad Dedobbeleer plays with this possibility in order to be able to make new statements. The lecture by Prof. Sabine Foraita invites you to take a walk to explore the boundaries between art and design…

Sabine Foraita has been Professor of “Design Science and Design Theory” since 2006 and represents this teaching and research area at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hildesheim. She holds a degree in Industrial Design and a Magister Artium in Art and Design. In 2005 she completed her dissertation “Borderline – the relationship between art and design from the perspective of design”. Her main research interests are: “The relationship between art and design”, “Developments in design science” and “Future research in design”. In 2011 she was elected to the board of the German Society for Design Theory and Research (DGTF).
