The work sexplaysmonk by the collective SEX, presented in the context of “Interludium I”, consists of a permanent setting in the exhibition and a temporary element that is linked to the accompanying program. Thus 33 posters pasted on the wall announce an event with the title SEX PLAYS MONK, which will take place on 31 March 2016 in the GAK: SEX plays records from the Limited Edition Jonathan Monk The Surprise (Remix by sex). For this SEX put together 100 maxi-singles with music from pop, dance, soul and house in cooperation with the British concept artist Jonathan Monk and based on his work The Surprise (2006) and anonymized their labeling. This results in a random selection of records, which SEX will play on March 31st in the GAK.
As the music and artist group SEX, Anneli Käsmayr, Branka Colic and Michael Rieken have been developing different formats between installation, intervention, music production and DJ set since 2005. Often a culinary component is included. This will also be the case on 31 March: in addition to water and beer, three drinks “mixed or selected by SEX” will be available at the GAK-Bar.
